Welcome to the Seasonal Food Guide, the most comprehensive national database of seasonal food available in the U.S.! We designed the Seasonal Food Guide to help you find out what produce is in season in your state throughout the year.
By purchasing local foods in season from local farms, your food dollar goes directly to farmers, you eliminate environmental damage caused by shipping foods thousands of miles and you’ll enjoy the health benefits of eating fresh, unprocessed fruits and vegetables. Plus, local, seasonal produce just tastes better!
Use the Seasonal Food Guide to learn when and where your favorite locally grown produce is in peak season and has maximum flavor by selecting a state and the time of year you’re interested in. You can also search by produce item — just choose your state and the type of produce you’re interested in learning more about.
The Seasonal Food Guide includes links to recipes and in-depth information on local, seasonal fruits, vegetables, herbs, legumes and nuts from our Real Food Encyclopedia Click the Learn & Cook button on your results page to discover more.
The data in the Seasonal Food Guide comes from the Natural Resources Defense Council and state departments of agriculture and university extension programs across the U.S. . Please note that there is some variability amongst the data in terms of whether these foods are available at markets during these months (but perhaps being kept in cold storage) or whether they exclusively refer to these foods being harvested during those months.
Also, it’s important to note that farming is an imprecise science, and unpredictable weather and fluctuations in seasonality may create variation in peak harvest times from year to year.

The geo-location feature on the Seasonal Food Guide works by calculating your proximity to the geographical center of each state. So, for example, if you’re in a town on the border between states, you may see that the Seasonal Food Guide has identified the state your town isn't in, because it is geographically closer to the center of that state than your own. More technically, the Seasonal Food Guide takes your latitude and longitude and calculates your proximity to the geographic centers of all 50 states using the Haversine formula for calculating distance between two points on the surface of a sphere, and chooses the lowest value out of the 50.
